MY 2019 KENYAN TRAVEL BLOGGERS

Its now 60+ days into 2019 so far so good. 60 days have already taken centre stage on the new pages of the new year, as usual my shoes and backpack have had a good taste of dust, my binoculars and camera have fought for the best views, scenery and captured the best both in my mind and memory cards.

There has been a growing request for me to share a list of other writers of whom are doing a great work promoting what I am pushing for and this is, “Domestic Tourism”.

I am sharing a number of travel bloggers in Kenya who are doing their best by packing their bags, pounding their wallets, collecting enough dust on their backpacks, to Stretching out their tents in different campsites or grounds that can just hold their tents to make a simple accommodation far from their comfortable warm homes, above all these are also among upcoming group of people whom I call ” Domestic Tourism Ambassadors “, they may not be recognized with flags, police escorts but they are ambassadors because they capture beautiful scenes and destinations majority are what I have been shouting and calling #HiddenKenyanGems

+ Bonita

This is an amazing traveler and also a good ambassador of domestic travel of whom makes me not give up on my ” Travel gospel” as she is doing justice to Kenyan Destinations. I first met her during a campaign by Kenya Tourism board and we were on the road for about 6 days to Western Kenya a campaign called #TwendeWestern and she is the Ambassador behind a blog called Bonita On Safari go get inspirations on Traveling

+ Carrine Andeyo

An old friend of mine we met during our travel days. I was just starting my travel blog and she didn’t even have the thought of writing but she already had visited a number of destinations both together or alone. Today she is on my list of my travel bloggers am keenly following in 2019. She is doing great showcasing her Travel in Kenya and I see her growing into a bigger Domestic Tourism Ambassador thanks to her creative writing and amazing adventures that when you read through she takes you on a journey as though you are on ground with her. Having met once in a while but the best was when I visited the United nations offices in Nairobi for a tour to working together trying to showcase Nairobi the City We Assume I have come to be a great follower of her work and adventures that ranges from showcasing beautiful hotels from the latest facilities to the oldest of the likes of Sarova Stanley, she is doing a great job giving information on travel from destinations to Accommodation facilities around Kenya. Her blog makes one feel excited and so ready to pack their bags and just go somewhere to explore thanks to her travel stories that she shares through Scrapbook Journeys

I call him my “Travel Brother” he has featured more often on my travel stories as we have done quite a number of explorations together from camping on on a rock in Machakos to us exploring the true wilderness of Masai land and much we have done together looking for new ventures to amazing destinations. His Travel stories just enlighten you on amazing destinations, encourage to travel more and above all his pictures just makes you fall in love with this amazing country that is indeed Magical thanks to the beautiful scenes that its blessed with. He always has something unique to be proud of hence the title of his travel stories which is Travel With Eliud

+ Wangechi Gitahi

Has solo travel ever crossed your mind before? I would call her the Kenyan Dr. Livingstone or today’s Vasco Dagama thanks to her great passion of exploring the untouched destinations. Her foot prints I believe the dust of the Northern Kenya has not yet covered them as this one of her favorite destination. She got great stories on her experience in this region to many others that she has undertaken her solo travel. This is one of the few people who has tried their best to demystify and change the image of regions that have never had a share of good new other than the long stories and bad image that the media has been sharing making many fear to dare set foot in them but Wangechi has joined the growing small number of Ambassondors who are showcasing these region and changing their images like through her travel stories she calls Wangechi Gitahi Travels

+ Kenyan Camper

If you have not read his blog you should just stop reading this and go do it……..( but wait until you finish this story I have for you, you may come back to finish my stories 10 years down the line thanks to his amazing adventures). In his Bio he calls himself “average Kenyan dude” mmmmhhhh but don’t take those words lightly. He has seen Kenya from the skies, enjoyed comfort of luxury accommodation, to his favorite style of accommodation : camping just to mention a few. Have you read the story of when Stanley found Dr. Livingstone in Africa after being presumed dead 5 years since the Western world heard from him? When I meet this amazing domestic Travel Ambassador the best way is to replay the words of Stanley “Kenyan Camper, I presume?”. To some extent he is the modern Kenyan “Sidi Mubarak Bombay” one of the most accomplished African Traveller only that the Kenyan camper is my most travelled Domestic ambassador and I say so because he showcases places that even put google map to shame as he does much to explore the less travelled road. I told you about my grandmother (Cucu wa muchaina) when I talked about challenges and advantages I get thanks to my Asian looks yet am 99% Kenyan and 1% Asian ( I think I should tell you one day about it and make it known that I didn’t “toa tint” but I am naturally Asian looking Kenyan). My grandmother told me that “Wachera” is a name that describes the characteristics of someone and here it describe “..one who travels..” This Travel ambassador lives by her name or should I say she is doing justice to the name? She is also one of the ladies I know who I believe don’t unpack their bags because its not about when she is planning the next adventure but when is the next adventure starting. Her travel stories give detailed information about solo traveling, volunteering and hiking all through her blog Wachera

+ Yvonne Iguku

She says her travel stories are directed or aimed at life experiences and sharing lessons drawn from her adventures. This is one person who is always trying to jump out of her comfort zone, try out something new, set foot on new horizons and explore the less travelled road. Few weeks ago we had a long chat on our way to Nanyuki and got to learn more bout her but she made me feel like I could sleep with my shoes on as she said that I do encourage her so much into exploring more of Kenya thanks to my Travel stories ( its such people that make me punish myself so hard with this linguistic challenges of the Queen’s way of communication that we call English, how I wish you can know how difficult it is to me thinking in my mother tongue then translate it all into English but I get to do it more thanks to the people I try to inspire to travel and explore our own nation rather than watch it on documentaries or read it in prints Thank you all) Her travel stories are documented through Mimi Times

How do you feel when people talk of the beautiful village you were raised in? (Yes am talking about a village, I was raised in one). I am one proud person of the village I was raised in and when you talk about it my ears and eyes will be on you so that to correct you or be proud of what you talk about it. Once wrote about my village and touched on one of our pride collection that is Lake Ol bolosat and she did justice to this beautiful gem of my village attracting me to read more about her Travel stories which are amazing from Lake Kanyamboli to the Manda Bay .Her work is amazing and encourages people to explore more through her adventures on her blog called Luxury Lonno and she is doing a good job with media Max showcasing her adventures

This is a lady doing her best to spread the gospel that says “Travel Is Cheap”. Many people fear to travel as they believe it is associated with spending so much money and is never affordable which is not the case. Her Travel stories tell it all that Travelling doesn’t have to be expensive because there are ways to make it even way much cheaper than you can dream of. She has explored the Tigoni falls by public means, and other places either walking or by still the public service vehicles, how I wish more people would follow her example and realize that its never expensive to travel at times it can cost less than a loaf of bread and 2 bottles of sodas. The little she has shared of her travel I have added her on my list of blogs I am following this year of 2019 thanks to her travel stories shared through her title Wanjiru’s World

How does it feel when you see the surprised face of a friend as you explain something that has always featured on their daily life? That was the exact thing that happened when Emily requested I take her on the amazing Nairobi City Walk Tour and by end of the day she agreed indeed Nairobi is The City We Assume. Her stories of adventures have got a great title called Kenya Talii

I came across this new addition of Domestic tourism Ambassadors was I looking and planning for my next exploration and adventure to Kerio Valley sometime back as the year was starting my interest was the beautiful but hidden Torok Waterfalls I had been told of them when I went looking for the white crocodiles of Lake Kamnarok about 5 years ago. Having gone through her travel stories I really liked the justice she is doing to what I call “Western Circuit” of Kenya. She is showcasing beautiful places from waterfalls to museums and much more, I have my eyes and following her amazing work in this year of 2019 and I believe soon she will be a name to look out for in this domestic travel especially this region of Kerio Valley. There you go now you have the list of Domestic Travel Ambassadors that I am following this year thanks to their work of encouraging fellow citizens to explore this beautiful country of ours called Kenya. However, I am left wondering why are there more Ladies travelling and exploring Kenya compared to the gentlemen?
